Cheese Zombies

When I was growing up, we had a lot of weird hot lunches at school.

Chili and Cinnamon Rolls anyone? We still eat this one occasionally….Yummy.

But one of the oddest was Cheese Zombies. The mental picture that brings to mind is monsters made of cheese or something…

Actually they are just like cheese calzones or something.

So I use my bread recipe to make this recipe.

Cheese Zombies

Bread dough

2 cups or so of shredded cheese.


9×13 pan, greased.

Make up the bread recipe. When you go to shape the loaves, divide into three portions. Make two loaves and bake as instructed. With the third portion, divide in two and roll out half to fit in the bottom of a greased 9×13 pan.

Evenly spread the cheese over the dough.

Roll out the remainder of the dough and stretch it over the cheese and dough in the pan. Pinch down the sides of dough-cheese sandwich, so it doesn’t get bubbles. Put butter on top of it.

Let rise for about 20minutes, or while you finish baking the rest of the bread.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes, or until done. The top should be all brown and it will smell DIVINE.

I like to make tomato soup from scratch, but I really hate making a bunch of grilled cheese sandwiches along side (and grilled cheese is a MUST with tomato soup). I usually burned at least one (or two) of them.

This is a good alternative. Everyone loves this recipe and it makes my grilled cheese WAAAAAYYY easier.
